Glossary of Website Terms
We have included some commonly used terms that we use in the Website Builder.
Content Management System – A content management system (CMS) is the collection of procedures used to manage work flow in a collaborative environment. These procedures can be manual or computer-based.
Website - A website (also written Web site or simply site ) is a collection of related web pages containing images, videos or other digital assets. A website is hosted on at least one web server, accessible via a network such as the Internet or a private local area network through an Internet address also called URL.
Webpage - A web page is a document, typically written in plain text interspersed with formatting instructions of Hypertext Markup Language (HTML, XHTML). A web page may incorporate elements from other websites with suitable markup anchors.
Skin – Is the visual appearance and layout of your website's pages.
Panes – Pre-defined Section of a webpage that hold modules.
Modules – Allows the admin to add content, images, slideshows and other elements onto a webpage.
Containers – Are additional design elements that allow you to further customize the site design. The containers appear over the background of modules.
Content – Web content is the textual, visual or aural content that is encountered as part of the user experience on websites. It may include, among other things: text,images, sounds, videos and animations.
Website Hosting - Web hosts (LinkingCommunities.com) are companies that provide space on a server they own or lease for use by their clients as well as providing Internetconnectivity, typically in a data center.
Domain Name - A domain name is an identification label that defines a realm of administrative autonomy, authority, or control in the Internet. Domain names arehostnames that identify Internet Protocol (IP) resources such as web sites. Domain names are formed by the rules and procedures of the Domain Name System (DNS).
Content – Web content is the textual, visual or aural content that is encountered as part of the user experience on websites. It may include, among other things: text,images, sounds, videos and animations.
Domain Name System (DNS) - The most prominent types of name servers in operation today are the name servers of the Domain Name System (DNS), one of the two principal name spaces of the Internet. The most important function of these DNS servers is the translation (resolution) of humanly memorable domain names andhostnames into the corresponding numeric Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, the second principal Internet name space, used to identify and locate computer systems and resources on the Internet.
